Instructions

My grandma (grammy) has always had trouble sleeping at night; her nights and days are backwards. Lately she hasn't been falling asleep for a different reason. Her husband, Paw, just turned 65. What's weird about that age is that everyone on his side of the family died at 65, so she was fairly worried (as any normal person would be).
She would stay up all night, thinking and worrying what she would do if he was gone. The only time she would ever fall asleep was out of pure exhaustion. This night was one of those nights.
She was having the same dream that she had every time she fell asleep; she was in San Fransisco, walking around and basically doing nothing. Suddenly the dream just stops.

Now,she hears a voice. Not just any voice, she knows that it is God. He says:
"David Gene (Paw) has pre-cancerous lesions on his lungs. I know you are worried about him. If he will stop smoking, I will heal him. but....
Not one more
Not one more
Not one more
Not one more
I know he smokes when he gets stressed, so tell him this instead: when he is stressed, instead of turning to the cigarette, tell him to turn to Me for support.
Not one more
Not one more
Not one more
Not one more
Not one more

My grammy woke up and was completely energized. She immediately called him downstairs and told him the story.

My Paw promised that he wouldn't smoke any more.
Not one more.

And my grammy? She is finally falling asleep at night, and sleeping all the way through.

My grandparents faith is like never before. They were amazed that with all that was going on in the world, that He cared enough to take the time to talk to them.

Honestly I think that its just incredible.

He is amazing :)

Inspiration from a little kids movie

I don't know why, but I was in the mood to watch The Prince of Egypt. I remember I used to watch it ALLLLL the time when I was little, so why not?

I was singing along to all the songs when this song came on, all I couldn't help but really listen to the lyrics:

A single thread in a tapestry
though its color brightly shines
can never see its purpose
in the pattern of the grand design

and the stone that sits up on the very top
of the mountain's mighty face
does it think that it's more important
than the stones that forms the base

So how can you see what your life is worth
or where your value lies
ohhhh, you can never see through the eyes of man
you must look at your life
look at your life through heaven's eyes

A lake of gold in the desert sand
is less than a cool fresh spring
and to one lost sheep, a Shepard boy
is greater than the richest king

should a man lose everything he owns
has he truly lost his worth
or is it the beginning
of a new and brighter birth

So how do you measure the worth of a man
in wealth or strength or size
in how much he gained or how much he gave
the answer will come,
the answer will come to him who tries
to look at his life through heaven's eyes

and that's why we share all we have with you
though there's little to be found
when all you've got is nothing
there's lots to go around

No life can escape being blown about
by the winds of change and chance
and though you never know all the steps
you must learn to join the dance
you must learn to join the dance

So how do you judge what a man is worth,
by what he builds or buys?
you can never see through the eyes on earth
look through heaven's eyes
look at your life,
look at your life through heaven's eyes!

If you haven't seen this movie, you really should. It's a classic!!

And for my next trick. . .

No, I don't know how to pull a rabbit out of a hat. ( and I know that's what y'all were thinking too :) But if you know me then you know that I'm pretty much the biggest klutz you will ever meet. I do stupid, silly, embarrassing things ALL the time. Here is a stupid moment:

My mom asks me to make dinner. So I'm like sure, that's no big deal, I make dinner all the time. Yes, it's true, and I'm not that bad. At least no ones said anything bad about my cooking before :) Anyway, my mom suggests that I make chili since it's really cold outside. So I go and get some hamburger meat out of the freezer so I can de-thaw it. My mom always cuts a big pack of meat up into pound-sized bags and uses one of those machines that sucks the air out of it. It's a really neat way to keep food for a long time. And it makes it simple when a quick dinner is needed.

But anyway the meat is thawed, I cut open the bag, put the meat in the pot, and go and light the gas burner. (A gas burner is the kind with the actual flame) Weeelll....I forgot to move the plastic bag that the meat was in out of the way. Whoops....

So what do I do? I have some burning plastic (that I've decided to pick up! What was I thinking?!) and I don't know how to put it out. Its too big to just blow out....So I go and put it in the sink!!! But what happens? The flame gets BIGGER. So I'm spazing out right now, and I'm yelling MOM!!!! MOM!!!! She comes running, sees the flame, and turns the water on :)

Wow Jordan, way to go using your brain.

Have you ever been in a situation where something happened and you just didn't think straight to fix it? Or any other stupid mistakes that would like to be shared...?

Look out!

Just a quick reminder for everyone out there, It's MRSA season yet again. There is a case at Memorial right now, so prayer would be much appreciated.

MRSA (in case you didn't know) is a staff infection that basically eats your skin. Nothing drastic like what you would expect to see in the movies but close enough right?

Just pray for me, I have two pretty big cut-like things on my legs from tripping at church :) It seems to be the only place I ever get hurt at lol. ( the funny thing was that I tripped over nothing and practically fell on my face. I bet they saved the security camera of it just because it's so epic :) ( I bet the show it at SWITCH.......oh dear....)

Anyway, be sure to wash hands and all that good stuff.....I know I wouldn't want something to be eating me.

Spanish is hard....?

For those of you who don't know, I'm working on my 10Th year of Spanish. Intense right?? When people hear that they often say things like " why?" "how did you do that?" "I don't see how you understand it" "I hate Spanish it doesn't make sense to me its SOOO hard!!" and the classic "can you speak it fluently???"

well, to answer the questions is a because I'm interested/credits, I went to Russell Dougherty where we started Spanish in kindergarten, when you take Spanish for soooo long you start to find that it's all kinda the same (and I can see where they don't understand it considering it's a whole different language ;), Spanish really isn't as hard as it seems, we just don't want to take the time to commit to it and aren't really forced to learn it, annnnd no, I'm really not all that great at Spanish. Sure, I can speak it if I have to, but other than that you wont find me rambling strange things walking down the hall :)

I had an AMAZING Spanish teacher last year, Mrs. Romburger. She showed us a poem at one time and explained, " I don't understand why you guys whine sooo much about Spanish, when English is the most complex language you could possibly try to learn." And the fact is that she is right! Once you get the basic structure of Spanish, it's pretty simple. English on the other hand is a tad more difficult. Here is the poem she showed us:

HINTS OF PRONUNCIATION FOR FOREIGNERS:

I take it you already know
of tough and bough and cough and dough?
-doe?
Others may stumble but not you,
on hiccough, rough, laugh and through.
Well done! And now you wish, perhaps,
To learn of less familiar traps?
Beware of heard, a dreadful word
That looks like beard and sounds like bird.
And dead; it's said like bed not bead-
for goodness' sake don't call it "deed"!
Watch out for meat and great and threat
(They rhyme with suite and straight and debt)
A moth is not a moth in mother
Nor both in bother, broth in brother.
And here is not a match for there
Nor dear and rear for bear and pear,
And then there's dose and rose and lose -
Just look them up - and goose and choose.
And cork and work and card and ward.
and font and front and word and sword,
And do and go and thwart and cart-
Come, come, I've hardly made a start!
A dreadful language? Man alive!
I'd mastered it when I was five.

Edmond Cup

Today was the first day of the Edmond Cup. It's a golf tournament for all of the high school golf teams. Well, only varsity was supposed to play, but for some reason one of the players couldn't. So I was next on the list! I'm not supposed to play on varsity because lets face it, I'm a freshman, and I haven't quite earned it. (They are all Jr.'s and Sr.'s).

Well, here I am, about to pee my pants on the first hole. I was SOOOOO nervous! This is my first Tournament of the year, and I really want to do good!

We were playing in a scramble against Santa Fe today. A scramble is when you have a partner (my partner was a Sr. named Travis. He's the #1 player on the guys golf team......if that's not intimidating I don't know what is) and you both hit off the tee box. Then you take the better shot and you both hit from there and so on. I was the only freshman, the other 3 people were Jr's and Sr.'s. AHHH! The guys were teeing off the challenge tees...and the girls get the Jr/ women tees :) SOOOO on the first hole...we used my drive...and on the second hole... :)

After that it was really fun. Scrambles are always fun to play, because you aren't really pressured to make an amazing shot every time. The good news???

WE WON!! We beat Santa Fe on the first 5 holes that we played...so we didn't need to play anymore. Cool huh?

Have you ever been in a situation where you were so nervous and you felt out of place? Did you overcome it and end up having a good time?

While golfing....

For those of you who don't know, I play golf :) And yes, I actually really love playing. Many people find the sport to be boring, but I just love it!! One of my classes at Memorial is golf. (Yes, I get a grade for it too :) Practice is hard-core. We play a round about 2 times a week, and the other two days we are out on the range, putting, and chipping. We are out on the course from 2:30-5 every day. I'm tellin' ya, it's got to be the longest hour of the day ;)

Today we were out on the course today, and I wasn't playing too well. I was on a hole right next to the main road, about to make my approach shot to the green. Now I'm thinking about where my hit should go, because I can try to go in between the trees or go around and risk getting in the water. So I decide to take my chances with the trees. I'm concentrating, because one wrong move and I can end up far from where I need it to be. I line it up, take my back swing annnnnnddd...

HOOOOOOOOOOOOONNNNNNNNNNNNNNKKKKKK!!!!!!!!!

You can only imagine what happened. I jumped because that was the last thing on my mind, topping the ball and it going slightly in the wrong direction.

A word to the wise. It is very annoying when people honk while going by the golf course. Believe it or not, they are actually concentrating and trying to improve on things. So next time when you are thinking about honking the horn, remember: you are about to upset someone with a club made out of iron and titanium and a pocket full of golf balls. I'm sure you would hate to find your car beaten up windows broke by a "stray ball". Just remember that ;)

If we are the Body

Here is another song that I just love. It really makes me think.

It's crowded in worship today
As she slips in Trying to fade into the faces
The girls' teasing laughter is carrying farther than they know
Farther than they know

But if we are the Body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the Body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way
There is a way

A traveler is far away from home
He sheds his coat And quietly sinks into the back row
The weight of their judgmental glances tells him that his chances
Are better out on the road

But if we are the Body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the Body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way

Jesus paid much too high a price
For us to pick and choose who should come
And we are the Body of Christ

Chorus (2x)
If we are the body
Why aren't His arms reaching
Why aren't His hands healing
Why aren't His words teaching
And if we are the body
Why aren't His feet going
Why is His love not showing them there is a way

Jesus is the way

Why not?

Legacy

I just want to say that unfortunately, the last Leah lesson is kinda border-line weird, and I wouldn't feel comfortable posting it for the whole world to see. It's an AMAZING ending, so if you would like to hear it, I can give you a run-down sometime! I'm really REALLY sorry about this!!

However, the lesson did talk about legacy, and when that happened a song popped into my head. It's a great song, and so I want to show you the lyrics; just let them sink in.

I don't mind if you've got something nice to say about me
And I enjoy an accolade like the rest
You could take my picture and hang it in a gallery
Of all who's who and so-n-so's that used to be the best
At such'n'such ... it wouldn't matter much
I won't lie, it feels alright to see your name in lights

We all need an 'Atta boy' or 'Atta girl'
But in the end I'd like to hang my hat on more besides
The temporary trappings of this world

I want to leave a legacy
How will they remember me? Did I choose to love?
Did I point to You enough
To make a mark on things? I want to leave an offering
A child of mercy and grace who blessed your name unapologetically
And leave that kind of legacy

I don't have to look too far or too long awhile
To make a lengthy list of all that I enjoy
It's an accumulating trinket and a treasure pile
Where moth and rust, thieves and such will soon enough destroy
Not well traveled, not well read, not well-to-do or well bred

Just want to hear instead, "Well Done" good and faithful one...

Are you going to leave a legacy?

Fun Weekend??

Well, I know that this Labor Day weekend has been a fun one for the Garrett family! We went to Six Flags Over Texas ( the one in Arlington). It was a complete BLAST!! There were vitually no lines; my dad and I walked on to the Titan 3 times and Batman once.

For those of you who don't know me, I'm a roller coaster FANATIC. It's pretty crazy actually, I just LOVE them. I don't really get the tingly feeling from them, so I can just lift my hands when falling 24 stories at 85 mph and actually enjoy the ride down :) It's fun!!!!

I don't know about you, but there is always something in life that is just exciting to think about, and it makes you jump in your seat thinking about doing it!

What is something that you just LOOOOOVE doing?

Oh, and what did you do over Labor Day?
